Between Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls, the river flows through primarily floodplain forest, but agricultural and rural residential lands also are visible from the river. This section is probably the fastest flowing portion of the Red Lake River. Class II rapids are more common here, and boulder riffles make passage at low flow difficult (below a stage of about 7 ft. at the gauging station in Crookston).
